Literary Works

Here is our little library, if you will, where you will find a varied compilation of scholarly articles, book excerpts, scans and all kinds of nifty stuff from books on kitsune and related. Some of these books are rare and out of print, and its generally a combination of dumb luck and good timing that we've either a.) gotten ahold of these books, or b.) gotten ahold of good copies of these books. We've worked real hard to reproduce this information on the page for you to peruse, enjoy, and hopefully learn from. Even though some of this material is now public domain, we ask you to throw us a bone and link us back if you intend on reproducing anything here. We've busted our collective asses trying to get this stuff up here, but we had a great time doing it, and wouldn't entirely be possible without the help from these awesome people. This page will experience some steady growth over the next few months, so we ask you check back here often to see what we've added. We also ask that you check out our bibliography for all the pertinent information on the literature we have and have cited from. And enjoy!

Fox Names and Grades (Rev. D.C. Buchanan, M.A., Ph.D.) - This excerpt was taken from the doctoral thesis Inari: Its Origin, Development, And Nature, published by the Asiatic Society of Japan. A very informative bit, with kanji. HTML file format, no images.

Myths of Unfamiliar Japan Volume 1, Chapter 15: Kitsune (Lafcadio Hearn) - This is the last chapter of the first volume of Lafcadio Hearn's Myths of Unfamiliar Japan, first volume. A very informative and important work on the kitsune.
